How running an email marketing campaign is like training to be a warrior

I was thinking the other day, while training to be a warrior, that it is a lot like running an email campaign… Kind of spooky in comparison actually.

Just like training to be a warrior, email marketing needs to have the proper planning, you’re not going to see results right away, you need to focus, you need to repeat the process a few times and you need to grow a beard and roar from a mountain top.

Let’s break it down into simple steps, us warriors in training are a dumb breed that need to talk in little words…

  1. Plan to be a warrior, plan your email marketing strategy
  2. Be patient, those warrior muscles wont develop over night, neither will those click through and conversion rates
  3. Repeat those sit-ups, chin-ups and bludgeoning techniques just as you would resending out those emails, making sure you remind people of the event or special
  4. Focus on the final goal
  5. Grow that beard and roar from the mountain tops, you have to make sure you get yourself heard, make sure you’re marketing to the right people too
  6. Chug a beer and eat some type of roast meat off the bone, just put on an awesome show, make that sale, enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Plan to be a warrior, plan your email marketing strategy
There is no point in just going out there and trying to be a warrior… what are you meant to do? do you run? do you jump? what about making sure you have enough drinking water? huh? bet you didn’t think about that did you? Well, if you don’t plan your email marketing campaigns you may as well be dying of thirst! You’ve got to plan, if you plan for a few hours at the beginning, you might just save yourself days in the end.

Be patient, those warrior muscles wont develop over night, neither will those click through and conversion rates
It would be so much easier with training if you could just get some muscles and put them on my already awesome physique, but alas, there is a lot of work to be done and slowly slowly does it. Same with our beloved email marketing, slowly slowly, sure, you’ll get yourself a bunch of hits at the beginning, maybe a few conversions, but still, people like to take their time with commiting to things, unless of course you offer free cake or beer (depending on your target market).

Repeat those sit-ups, chin-ups and bludgeoning techniques just as you would resending out those emails, making sure you remind people of the event or special
This ties in with section “2” – you’ve got to repeat, repeat, repeat. You’re going to have to repeat the training process to gain those huge warrior muscles, to gain that endurance you’ll need to be that warrior, to gain that bludgeoning technique down pat… to gain the return clients, to gain the click through rates, to gain enough information into the sponge like brains that might just click on that “register” or “buy now” button. Second verse, same as the first.

Focus on the final goal
Why is it you are training… that’s right, TO BECOME A WARRIOR!.. why is it you’re marketing? that’s right, To gain more customers, to gain more bums on seats, to gain more monies. Remember that when making those changes. What will help you make that final goal a reality.

Grow that beard and roar from the mountain tops, you have to make sure you get yourself heard, make sure you’re marketing to the right people too
Now that you’ve got it all worked out, get on the highest and most dangerous mountain (to show off you manliness) and yell at your friends and enemies, that way everyone will know you’re well on your way to being a warrior… or are you well on your way to marketing that perfect email? Who knows? no one, if you don’t promote and ship it out to everyone (legally of course) you can. So jump on board and use our awesome email program to make sure the right people get your message.

Chug a beer and eat some type of roast meat off the bone, just put on an awesome show, make that sale, enjoy the fruits of your labor!
My favorite part of warrior training, or email marketing is getting those conversions. ahh… the reward. the sweet sweet nectar of the beer gods. Is it Friday yet?

So to sum up, you need to plan, execute, repeat, focus, grow and enjoy your email marketing… or was that warrior training?

Just in case you’ve made it this far, I thought I should point out the relevancy of this post to warrior training, Shaun and myself are doing the Warrior Dash. We thought it’d be a pretty fun way to get in shape, and to have some fun. So, hey, why not blog about it? If you’ve read this far… you’re so totally awesome.
